Cookie Policy

What this policy covers
This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies (like your browser's local storage) used on our marketing site, pics.direct, and on your order pages at order.pics.direct. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information in general.
What loads when you visit
We do not show a cookie banner. The analytics and advertising tools below (Google Analytics, PostHog and the Meta Pixel) start as soon as you open a page. They are not needed to place an order, and you can block them using the options under "Your choices". Stripe is needed to pay.
Google Analytics 4 (pics.direct and order pages)
Measures traffic. It records pages you view, how you found us, your browser and device type and your approximate location (from your IP address). On order pages it also records the value and contents of your cart and order. It sets Google cookies such as _ga.
PostHog (pics.direct and order pages)
Product analytics. It records pages you view, how you click and move through our pages, your browser and device type and your approximate location (from your IP address). This may include recordings of how you use our pages, with typed inputs hidden. It stores an ID in a cookie and in local storage so it can tell visits apart. After you sign up or open your order page, it links your activity to a random-looking ID we create from your phone number with a key only we hold. PostHog never receives your phone number itself.
Meta Pixel (pics.direct only)
Measures our Facebook and Instagram ads. It reports the pages you view and when you sign up, and sets Meta's _fbp cookie. If you arrive from a Meta ad, it also keeps the ad click ID (_fbc). Meta may link this to your Facebook or Instagram account. When you sign up, our server sends Meta your IP address, your browser's user agent and these cookie values so Meta can match the sign-up to an ad. The Meta Pixel does not load on order pages.
Stripe (order pages)
Our payment processor. Stripe's code loads when you open your order page. It sets cookies to process payments securely and help prevent fraud. These are needed to pay.
Google Fonts (pics.direct only)
On pics.direct, our fonts load from Google's servers, which receive your IP address and browser details. It sets no cookies.
Our own storage
Our sites also save a few small settings in your browser's storage. These stay on your device and are not used for tracking:
- Whether you closed the promotion banner
- On order pages: duplicate-photo warnings you dismissed and whether you turned on "Show print area"
On pics.direct we also keep the ad campaign tags (for example, utm_source) and any Meta ad click ID from the link you arrived from, until you close the tab. These are used for ad tracking: they are sent with your sign-up so we can tell which ad or link brought you, and the ad click ID goes to Meta as described above.
Your choices
Using our sites does not stop you from controlling these tools. You can:
- Block third-party cookies, or delete cookies and site data, in your browser settings (see below)
- Use a content or tracker blocker, which stops these tools from loading
- Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on
- Change how Meta uses your activity for ads in your Meta ad preferences
- Opt out of interest-based ads from participating companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada or YourAdChoices (US)
Blocking analytics and advertising tools does not stop you from ordering. Blocking all cookies may stop checkout from working, because Stripe needs its cookies to take payment.
